Boise State managed to go 3-3 in its first three games. The losses came from UCF, the state of Oklahoma and Nevada; the wins were courtesy of UTEP, Utah State, and BYU. The Broncos ended up falling to the Air Force 24-17 in their last outing.
In the loss to the Air Force, Boise State limited the Falcons to just three points in the second half, but also scored just three themselves. Quarterback Hank Bachmeier had 259 yards with one touchdown and one pick, while Andrew Van Buren had 58 yards and one score on 15 rushes.
On the Colorado State side, they have lost three of their first four games this year, beating Toledo while also falling to South Dakota State, Vanderbilt and Iowa. After that there were wins over San Jose State 32-14 and New Mexico 36-7.
In last Friday’s game against Utah State, the Rams had a smashing fourth quarter comeback in the dying seconds due to a chaotic field goal attempt and fell 26-24. Quarterback Todd Centeio had 282 yards, a touchdown and a pick. David Bailey led the race with 159 yards and two scores.
Boise State is 4-0 ATS in its last four straight games and 5-2 ATS in its last seven after an ATS loss. The Broncos are also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on the turf.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five total games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in October. Colorado State is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games against a team with a loss record as well.
TO TAKE: I will stay with Colorado State. The Rams were in position for an electric win over Utah State, but couldn’t get their fielding unit into position in the dying seconds and missed the winning try. The nine penalties and the two turnovers didn’t help matters either. Still, Colorado State has done a lot statistically well: 472 total yards, 6.5 yards per play, 26 first downs, and more.
As for Boise State, they did a few good things against a tough Air Force team in their last outing, but couldn’t resolve the Falcons’ heavy offense with 307 rushing yards allowed. The Broncos also committed eight penalties and recorded two turnovers. I love that the Falcons come together and play well here, with the Rams ending up making a cover. It should be a fun game.
