Martin Owusu discusses relationship with Iowa
The recruitment of Martin Owusu is progressing at a steady pace. The Prior Lake (MN) defensive end is doing what he can to make sure this continues.
South Dakota, Akron, West Michigan, Utah State and Toledo reportedly offered him scholarships over the past week. They joined previous opportunities from central Michigan, Illinois State, Wyoming and northern Iowa.
While enjoying all avenues of Group 5 and high-end FCS, Owusu welcomes a chance of top schools. He believes in his ability to perform at the highest level of college football.
“My next step is to find this Big Ten (program) to pull the trigger,” he told HN.
Iowa could be that school. Owusu (6-4, 245) is building a relationship with the Hawkeyes through two campus visits.
He attended the Penn State game at Kinnick Stadium on October 9. He returned for Junior Day last month.
“I loved how I was treated by the entire coaching staff and people of Iowa. My family and I loved every minute I was in Iowa, and my family and I spent a lot of time chatting with (assistant) coaches (Kelvin) Bell and (Ladell) Betts,” Owusu said.
He has done his best to familiarize himself with the colleges that interest him. He also visited Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa State, North Dakota State, and northern Iowa.
Iowa stands out from the crowd.
“I think the bottom line is that the Hawkeyes are real, and if they’re signing you, that really means something,” he said. “I felt I left the tour in a really great place.”
Owusu also stands out on the mat, wrestling heavyweight for Prior Lake.
