Missouri Valley’s No.10 men’s football defeats No.8 baker in the top 10

Marshall, Missouri, (September 28, 2021) – The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team hosted Baker (Kan.) Inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium on Tuesday night in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubles program . The No.19 men’s soccer team scored four goals in the second half to secure a 5-1 victory over No.8 Baker.
The men’s game opened with a quick chance at goal for Missouri Valley, but the close-range shot from Freshman Forward Tate richards (London, England) was saved with just over a minute of play. Baker had the best chance after mid-half, putting in three shots on goal in ten minutes. Junior goalkeeper Dusan Milosevic (Belgrade, Serbia) made saves on all three attempts to keep the game scoreless with 25 minutes of play. The next shot on goal came five minutes later, but the senior midfielder’s attempt Luka Gluscevic (Belgrade, Serbia) was saved. The Vikings had the best possession over the next few minutes, and the two second-year midfielders Aleksa cobanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and senior striker Ruben Jimenez (Barcelona, ââSpain) had saved shots. With just over 41 minutes played in the half, the junior striker Juri Schlingmann (Flensburg, Germany) saw an attempt saved by Baker’s goalkeeper, who went out for a corner. Junior forward Paulo alves (Curitiba, Brazil) takes the corner and finds Cobanovic at the far post. Cobanovic poked his head past the Wildcat keeper and into the goal to give MVC a 1-0 lead with three minutes left before the break. Baker couldn’t respond to the late goal and the Vikings held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half presented more chances for Missouri Valley quickly after the restart. Alves saved a shot after four minutes of play, but Richards increased the lead to 2-0 after a goal, with Jimenez winning the assist. The two teams traded possession over the next streak, but Baker held possession near the Viking surface around the 60th minute, which ultimately led to an own own goal against Missouri Valley, reducing the advantage. to 2-1. The team reacted quickly, and just over a minute later the second-year midfielder Mike moser (Thun, Switzerland) scored his first goal of the game to take a 3-1 lead. The Vikings continued to put pressure on BU and Moser got another shot on goal. Gluscevic prepared Moser with the attempt, and he scored his second goal to take the lead to 4-1 with almost 20 minutes played into the half. The Wildcats struggled to create chances until the end of the game, but Missouri Valley continued to hold the best of possession. With ten minutes left in the game, Freshman Defender Malcolm Young (Auckland, New Zealand) created space in the box and sent a cross in front of the goal which found first-year striker Pablo Segovia (Alicante, Spain). Segovia put his volley chance past the BU goalie and into the goal to cap the score and give Missouri Valley a 5-1 victory.
Richards scored his first goal of the season and his first game-winning goal. Moser added the first game to several goals in his career, while Segovia added his first goal. Cobanovic finished with one goal and now leads the team with 10 points, while Alves, Jimenez, Gluscevic and Young each added an assist. Milosevic made three saves in the game. Missouri Valley had a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The win takes Missouri Valley 6-2 overall and 2-2 at Heart. Baker falls to 7-3 on the season and to 3-1 in the Heart.
Next, the Vikings men’s and women’s football teams will host Graceland, Iowa, in a Heart Double program on Saturday night at Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The women’s match starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s match at 7:30 p.m.
