LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming cross-country teams will travel to St. Paul, Minnesota, to compete in the 2021 Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. Friday September 24.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will face a good field when they take to the course on Friday morning with the men running an 8K and the women a 6K. Three top 30 teams nationally, including BYU No. 3 in men and host school Minnesota at No. 10 in women.

said coach Scott dahlberg, “With around 20 teams in each race, there is very good competition on both sides. Many teams ranked nationally and others well ranked in different regions. “

In addition to BYU, the men will face No.10 from Iowa State and No.26 from Michigan State while the women will face No.6 from Michigan State and No.30 from Iowa State with Minnesota. .

This will be the second race of the season for the cross country team after competing at the Wyoming Invites on September 3-4 in Cheyenne, Wyo., With Dahlberg and the team ready for the next challenge of the season. Dahlberg said about the course: “The Minnesota course is an honest cross country course with thick grass, lots of hills and turns. This course fits well with our early season training.

Friday’s race will take place at Les Bolstad Golf Course on the University of Minnesota campus in the morning with the Men’s Gold (Division 1) competition scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. (MT) start just after the conclusion of the National anthem with the Women’s gold competition is scheduled to start at 11:15 am.

Regarding the competition, Dahlberg said: “We are excited for the race in Griak this Friday. The teams have had excellent training over the past two weeks and are ready to compete. Because the men were looking for a more complete race. In Cheyenne there were a lot of good performances but a few guys ended up knowing they could have pushed harder in the middle of the race. Part of that is trusting each other and we think they’ve built up some good trust since then. On the women’s side, we are running four freshmen in uniform who ran alone in our first competition. They make a great transition and will add depth to a crew that is progressing extremely well. For both teams, if they run at the same level they worked, it will be a good result.
